Sacramento came out on the front foot early but were unable to find the back of the net within the first 15 minutes while controlling much of the run of play. Then in the 21st minute from a corner kick Sacramento took the lead through a Connor Donovan header to make the game 1-0 in favor of the hosts. Oakland battled back with their best chance of the half coming late on when Mikael fired a strike that Sacramento keeper Danny Vitiello spilled leaving a second chance for Oakland's Darek Formella that he was just unable to finish as the half ended 1-0.

Oakland came out of the locker room stronger with more possession but were unable to create a major chance in that time. Sacramento then threatened in the 66th minute when a rebound hit the post before Paul Blanchette made a big save to keep Oakland in the match. Oakland then began to press high and made some attacking substitutions as some chances started to fall the way of the visitors. In the end Roots were unable to find the equalizer as Republic won their first ever match over Oakland.

Oakland Roots are back in action next Saturday at home at Laney College as they host San Antonio on September 3rd at 7:00 PM.
