Ron Rolston Named Head Coach Of 2007 National Junior Team

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Ron Rolston (Ann Arbor, Mich.), currently a head coach at USA Hockey's National Team Development Program in Ann Arbor, Mich., will serve as head coach of the U.S. National Junior Team it was announced today by USA Hockey. The U.S. National Junior Team will compete at the 2007 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship December 26, 2006 - January 6, 2007, in Leksand and Mora, Sweden.

"Ron is one of the bright young coaches in the United States," said Dave Ogrean, executive director of USA Hockey. "He's done an excellent job as a head coach in our National Team Development Program over the last two years and we know our National Junior Team will be in more than capable hands with Ron as head coach."

"It is exciting and humbling to be given the opportunity to lead any group of players representing our country on the international stage," said Rolston. "The stature of American hockey continues to rise and I look forward to the challenge of putting a staff and team together that will give us the best chance to win a gold medal at the World Junior Championship."

Rolston is in his second season with USA Hockey's NTDP and this season is serving as the head coach of the U.S. National Under-17 Team. He has experienced great success as a coach on the international level, having led the U.S. National Under-18 Team to a gold medal at the 2005 IIHF World Under-18 Championship in Plezn, Czech Republic. He also served as an assistant coach for the U.S. National Junior Team that advanced to the bronze medal game at the 2003 IIHF World Junior Championship in Halifax and Sydney, Nova Scotia.

This year, Rolston has led the U.S. National Under-17 Team to a 10-2-2 record in international play, including first-place finishes in the Four Nations Cup played in November in Piestany, Slovakia and the Vlad Dzurilla Four Nations Cup that took place in February, also in Piestany. In addition, Rolston guided Team USA to a silver medal in the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge held in Regina, Saskatchewan, in late December/early January. Overall, the U.S. National Under-17 Team has posted a 31-19-4-3 record, including games against international opponents and teams from the North American Hockey League, the Eastern Junior Hockey League and NCAA Division III.

Prior to his tenure with USA Hockey's NTDP, Rolston served as an assistant men's ice hockey coach at Boston College (2002-04), Harvard University (1999-2002) and Clarkson University (1996-99). He also spent five years at Lake Superior State, four as assistant coach (1990-94) and one as associate head coach (1995). While at Lake Superior State, Rolston helped the Lakers capture NCAA titles in 1992 and 1994.

Rolston will lead the 2006 National Junior Evaluation Camp next August 5-12 in Lake Placid, N.Y., as a part of the selection process for the 2007 U.S. National Junior Team. The final roster is set to be named in early December, 2006.
