Newark Bears News Release

NEWARK, N.J. - After spending the past two-plus seasons as a member of the Newark Bears organization in varying capacities, Victor Rojas resigned today to accept a position as the radio analyst for the Arizona Diamondbacks. Rojas, who served as the play-by-play announcer for Newark the past two seasons, will embark upon his first Major League baseball analyst job. With the Diamonbacks, Rojas will provide commentary for all 162 regular season games as well as all spring-training action. He joins a broadcast team which includes Thom Brennaman, Joe Garagiola, Jr., Steve Lyons, Greg Schulte and Jim Traber.

"I've really enjoyed my time in Newark," Rojas said. "The entire organization has been nothing but gracious and accommodating to me and my family. It has been my goal to broadcast for a Major League organization ever since I could remember. Though my time in Newark was both exciting and rewarding, I am looking forward to joining one of the premier franchises in all of sports."

Rojas has been with the Bears since March of 2001, having served as Assistant General Manager and General Manager as well as broadcaster throughout his tenure. One of Rojas' primary responsibilities has been the procurement of players, managers and coaches for the Bears. Since his arrival, not only did the Bears make their first-ever playoff appearances, but were also crowned North Division Champions in 2001 and Atlantic League Champions in 2002. In addition to his duties with the Bears, Rojas began working with Major League Baseball Radio in 2001. He hosted a three-hour talk show during the week and called the 2002 MLB All Star Game and Futures Game in Milwaukee in July and the Arizona Fall League, including its Championship Game, in November.

"We are certainly going to miss Victor, we thank him for all of his efforts here and wish him the best" Newark Vice President/General Manager Chris Bryan said. "He has been an important part of this organization for the past two years. He possesses expertise in a multitude of areas and his contributions to the Bears will be sorely missed. It goes to show that the Atlantic League not only helps players attain their dreams of putting on a major league uniform but it also can help broadcasters set up shop behind a big league microphone."

The Newark Bears compete in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball, capturing the league title in 2002. The Atlantic League consists of eight teams in five different states and enters its sixth season of competition on May 1. The Bears 2003 Schedule and Season Ticket Packages for their Fifth Anniversary in the City of Newark have already been announced and can be viewed at www.NewarkBears.com. The Bears 2003 Promotional Schedule will be released soon.
