Medford Rogues News Release

MEDFORD, Ore. - The Medford Rogues (1-1) lost to the Lincoln Potters (1-1) 16-11 on Wednesday night at Harry and David Field.

The Potters jumped to a huge 8-0 lead after a two run first inning and a six run second inning, capped off by a grand slam by Walker Dodero and solo shot by Billy Rockefeller.

However, the Rogues answered in the bottom of the second back when Tanner Cantwell (University of Montana, Billings) scored on an error by the Potters' third baseman.

Cole Carder (Antelope Valley College) singled to lead off the third inning, and then Joe Bath (Lewis-Clark College) singled to advance Carder to third base. Cantwell hit a soft ground ball to Potters' second baseman Dylan Smethurst, who tried to glove flip the ball to first, but the toss went wide. Carder scored, Bath advanced to third, and Cantwell advanced to second.

Riley Kasper (Saddleback College) then hit a line drive double to right field, scoring Bath and Cantwell, but Kasper was gunned down trying to stretch the double into a triple. At the end of three innings, the Potters lead 8-4.

The Rogues were unable to stop the Potters as they extended their lead in the fourth and fifth inning, tallying six runs total, to pull away 14-4.

However, the Rogues were not done fighting. Josh Congdon (Linn-Benton College) came back fighting in the sixth inning igniting the Rogues with a two RBI single, scoring Austin Healy (Shasta College) and Chad Pike (IMG Academy), to cut the deficit back to eight.

Then, Josh McIntrye (Fullerton JC) smacked a two out, one run double to drive home Carder. Congdon and McIntrye scored on wild pitches, to bring the Rogues within five.

The rally continued in the bottom of the eighth when Cantwell walked with the bases loaded to score Congdon, and Kasper hit a RBI sac fly to score McIntyre. The Potters' lead was down to three. The Rogues had the tying run at the plate but failed to score again in the inning.

The Potters tacked on two insurance runs in the ninth and held the Rogues scoreless in the bottom frame to win 16-11.

The Medford Rogues and Lincoln Potters will finish the three-game series on Thursday, May 31st at 6:35 p.m. at Harry and David Field, which is also Throwback Thursday. The Medford Rogues will be paying homage to the original 1950-51 Medford Rogues with throwback prices on food, $3 beer, golden oldies music playing all night long, and special 1950's themed jerseys. Tickets to all 3 Throwback Thursday games will be available for purchase online for $20.
