
Rogues Relish Win over Portland Pickles

MEDFORD, OREGON - The Medford Rogues opened the 2016 season in the Great West League with a great showing on the field and at the plate with a 6-4 win over the Portland Pickles. The Rogues were off to an early start leading 3-1 after 4 innings with a 2-run home run, then capped off the night with a solo homerun to extend their lead 6-4.
The Rogues plated 2 runs in the second inning, followed by a 2-run home run by Connor Lowrie in the fifth inning. The Pickles crossed the plate 3 times in the sixth inning but it wasn't enough when Johnny Delacruz hit a solo home run in the seventh inning.
Connor Lowrie was strong at the plate with an RBI single and stolen base in the second inning then followed it up with a two-run home run in the fifth inning. Cam Russ also had a stand-out night at the plate going 3-for-4 with a double, and two singles and scored 2 of the Rogues' 6 runs. Johnny Delacruz had his first home run of the season with the insurance run for the Rogues in the seventh inning.
D.J. Wilson earned the Opening Night start for the Rogues and went 6 innings. Wilson gave up four earned runs on 12 hits, striking out 1 batter with no walks. Lowrie earned the save pitching the 9th inning, giving up 1 hit, walking 1 but striking out all 3 batters.
The Rogues and Pickles face off again tomorrow night for game 2 of the 3 game series. Saturday night's game will be the Rogues' tribute to the history of basball in the Rogue Valley with special edition Medford A's jerseys and fireworks. Game-worn jerseys will be available for purchase through a silent auction during the game.
