Knoxville Smokies News Release
Pensacola, Fla. - The Tennessee Smokies (33-30) snapped their season-high six-game losing streak Sunday over the Pensacola Blue Wahoos (32-24) in a 5-1 win at Blue Wahoo Stadium.
A three-run second inning was enough, as Bryce Ball put the Smokies in the run column by adding his team-leading 42nd RBI on a base-hit single that brought home Alexander Canario. Two batters later, Cole Roederer got his day started with a two-out single that added two more to the inning.
Roederer on the afternoon was a perfect three-for-three with a pair of singles and a double while tallying a season-best three runs batted in. His third and final RBI came in the sixth inning to add further insurance for the Smokies. Again with two outs, Roederer punched one to left to score Cam Balego running the Smokies lead to four.
Smokies starter, RHP Ryan Jensen, was solid in three innings of work allowing no runs or walks with two punchouts. LHP Dalton Stambaugh (W, 4-1) carried the momentum for 4.1 solid innings only allowing one run to Pensacola in the seventh frame to secure his fourth win with the Smokies. Stambaugh then turned it over midway in the eighth as RHP Blake Whitney (S,1) shut the door for his first save.
Reigning Southern League Player of the Week, Jake Slaughter, allowed the Smokies to clearly pull away in the visitor's ninth. He lined his second base-hit of the night to score Luis Vazquez and cement a 5-1 victory.
The Smokies will return to Smokies Stadium to play game one of the six-game series against The Chattanooga Lookouts on Tuesday night. First pitch is set for 7:15 p.m. ET. The Smokies will send RHP Peyton Remy (3-2, 9.07 ERA) while the Lookouts starter is still to be determined.
