Rockies snap four-game skid

July 1, 2005 - Pioneer League (PL)
Casper Ghosts News Release

The Casper Rockies bats have kept the young team in every game so far this season; it's been the pitching that's been the big question mark. Last night in Casper, starter Alan Johnson tossed 5 1/3rd innings of solid baseball to earn his first win as a pro as the Rockies outlasted Orem 9-8.

Johnson's win was the first win by a Casper starting pitcher this season. He also struck out eight Owlz in the game. Brett Strickland rescued the Rockies bullpen again in the top of the ninth. With Casper leading by five, Casper's Manuel Pichardo allowed four Orem runs in the top of the ninth to make the game interesting. Strickland came to the rescue and finished the game to earn his first save of the season.

The Rockies were paced at the plate by Trevor Allen's 4-for-5 night at the plate. The outfielder knocked in two runs and stole a base as well. Cole Garner and Chris Cook went back-to-back with solo home runs in a 3-run fifth inning as well.

The Rockies and Owlz wrap a two-game series Friday at Mike Lansing Field. Casper then hosts Ogden for a three-game series beginning Saturday.
