January 11, 2009 - Eastern Professional Hockey League (EPHL)
Jersey Rockhoppers News Release
Sunday nightt at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in Poughkeepsie, NY, the Rockhoppers avengend their loss on Friday night, fighting off a late Hudson Valley comeback and winning 5-4. Jersey came out determined not to let Friday night's events repeat themselves, firing 19 first period shots. But Bears goalie Len DiCostanzo was able to turn away nearly all of them, with the exception of Matt Tyree's wrister early in the period. Rob Lemelin kept the Bears off of the board in the first and Jersey ended the period with a 1-0 lead. Hudson Valley started the second period with upset on their minds. Scott Horvath and Devin Guy each scored within the first two minutes of the period, and suddenly the Rockhoppers found themselves playing catch-up. Chris Ferazzoli got the comeback train on track by taking an Anthony Becker pass and putting it into the net, tying the game at 2-2. After Peter Alden gave the lead back to the Bears, Russell Spence took advantage of the power play and ripped a slapshot from the point past DiCostanzo to tie things at 3-3. Patrick Serpico then added his 2nd goal of the year and sent the game into the third period with Jersey leading 4-3.
With just under 10 minutes remaining in regulation, Horvath tied the game scoring his 2nd goal of the game for Hudson Valley. But Jersey's Alex Hager would have the final say on the outcome of this contest. "(Jordan) Hellman found me after a rebound," said Hager. "And I fired a quick wrister top shelf, and it got by him." Goalie Rob Lemelin improved to 3-0 on the year, and is one of only two EPHL goaltenders with at least three decisions to be undefeated so far this season.
