Rockford IceHogs News Release
Kalamazoo, Mich.- Game One of the 2006 Colonial Cup Semifinals didn't quite start out like the Rockford IceHogs had wanted. The Hogs dropped a 3-1 contest to Kalamazoo Wings in Game One of the best-of-seven series at Wings Stadium in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Kalamazoo drew first blood in the opening period when winger Lucas Drake slid a rebound under IceHogs goalie Scott Dickie at 14:20, putting the Wings ahead 1-0. In second frame, the Wings tacked on two more to take a 3-0 lead.
The first marker came on a power play when Nick Bootland fired in a perfect set-up from Daniel Carriere at 5:17. Later, winger Jason Dietch put the Wings up three when his wrist shot beat Dickie in traffic at 14:54.
Rockford attempted a comeback and ruined Kalamazoo goalie Joel Martin's shutout bid when Corey Hessler hammered home his second postseason goal on the advantage at 15:35. That's all the Hogs could muster, however, and for the second straight season Rockford dropped Game One of the Semifinals.
Overall, the IceHogs were outshot 34-18 by the Wings and Martin earned his fifth straight playoff win making 17 saves. Dickie made 31 saves in the losing effort. Rockford held Kalamazoo to 1-for-7 on the power play, including scoreless on a full 5-on-3 advantage to begin the third period. Rockford finished the contest 1-for-6 on the power play.
Next Home Game: Sunday, May 7 vs. Kalamazoo Wings. Game time is 5:05p.m. Game Three of the Colonial Cup Semifinals at the MetroCentre. For tickets call (815) 968-5222.
