Rocket Player Appearance Program Continues to Grow

December 23, 2010 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
P.E.I. Rocket News Release

The PEI Rocket Player Appearance Program is more popular than ever with hundreds of requests coming in each and every month. "We wish we could do all of the events we are asked to take part in, but it is just not possible", said GM of Business Operations, Kent Hudson. "We hope fans understand that the players have very busy schedules with hockey, school, homework, and of course some personal time with friends, family and billet families too...it is very important to balance their community activities with their everyday activities", added Hudson.

The most popular requests have been for players to visit minor hockey practices, but it is important to note that this program is designed for all types of community events as well. "It is fun to visit minor hockey teams and take part in their practices", said Team Captain Travis McIsaac. "We have a lot of fun going on the ice with the players who may grow up to play for the Rocket just like us at some point in the future. As an Islander, it is a great honour to play for the home town team."

Teams are urged to send in their requests via the PEI Rocket website at www.peirocket.com and click on the Player Appearance Program link under the Community tab and fill in the form. Each request will receive fair and consistent consideration and will be confirmed on the basis of availability and team policies. Submitting a request does not guarantee an appearance. Requests should be received at least 2 weeks prior to a scheduled event and the organization will make every effort to respond in a timely fashion to each request. The Rocket have a very busy schedule after Christmas and would like to visit as many events as possible.

"It is a great way for us to connect with the community", said Serge Savard Jr. "This program provides the Rocket players with great experience in understanding that they are role models for many youngsters who look up to them and in some cases, who idolize them. We have a great group of kids and we want people to get to know them for more than just their hockey skills. This program is an example of how we will try to provide our players with a total developmental experience while being a member of the PEI Rocket family. We hope to make them better hockey players during their tenure here, but we also hope to make them better individuals, and this program is one of the ways we can assist in this process."

NEXT HOME GAME

The Rocket will return to action at the Charlottetown Civic Centre on Tuesday, December 28th when they host the Saint John Sea Dogs. Game time is 7:00 PM. Fans are also reminded that this is the final game to take advantage of special December pricing for students and youth. All tickets for student and youth will be $5.00 plus taxes for this final home game in December.
