Rocket Launch Rocket Scientists Program

November 12, 2009 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
P.E.I. Rocket News Release

The PEI Rocket are pleased to announce another new component of their ongoing community outreach program. This is a brand new initiative called the Rocket Scientists Performer Program and it is designed to reward Prince Edward Island elementary school children for their hard work, dedication and leadership.

The Rocket Scientists Performer Program will provide some complimentary tickets to every elementary school on Prince Edward Island to use as rewards for their students. These could be provided for: excellence in academics; excellent work ethic; leadership qualities; or for whatever is deemed appropriate by the administration of the particular school.

Each elementary school Principal has already received an information package and have been asked to provide information on how the tickets will be distributed. Based on a percentage of enrollment numbers, the PEI Rocket will provide ticket coupons to each elementary school across Prince Edward Island to use as they wish. These are currently being delivered to the schools.

"We really wanted to use our position in the community to show the importance of education and the importance of being a good citizen", said General Manager, Kent Hudson. "This is a great way for us to recognize some students throughout PEI and have them join us for a home game. Through our Rocket Launchers online panel, our fans have asked us to be more involved in the community and that has been our biggest commitment for the past season and a half. This program is just another extension of that".

The Rocket are interested in growing the program further to allow even more school children to be recognized. "We are looking for some additional support from our local corporate community to assist us in making the program even more successful. The Rocket are going to provide the initial tickets to all of the various elementary schools on PEI, but we would like the members of the corporate community to assist us in increasing this number further. Our youth are a very important part of our community and we want to recognize them for their hard work and determination", added Hudson.

The Rocket are in the process of contacting each and every elementary school on Prince Edward Island and are providing information packages for the delivery of the program. The focus of the program is to deliver the tickets immediately so that youth will be able to attend Rocket games between now and the end of December. Each complimentary ticket provided requires that an adult ticket be purchased to ensure supervision is provided at the games.

After this initial trial, the Rocket will evaluate the success of the project and will determine the strategy for moving forward.
