P.E.I. Rocket News Release

The off season continues to be a busy one for the PEI Rocket. This morning, they announced the hiring of a second assistant coach, a new sales and marketing director, as well as a Rocket Alumni that will act as a team ambassador for the summer.

Over the past year, the Rocket have been evaluating every part of the organization and gradual changes have been made. As an organization, they are taking steps to get better in all areas and adding a second assistant coach was a priority.

Luke Beck, of Charlottetown PEI, has been added to the coaching staff. He joins Head Coach, Gordie Dwyer, and Assistant Coach, Cory Micalef, behind the bench. Beck will also assume the role of Hockey Administrator, which means he will be a liaison between the league and the team when dealing with hockey operations.

Beck was an elite player through minor hockey, Junior A and a division of the NCAA. He began coaching as an assistant coach with the Yarmouth Mariners in the Maritime Junior "A" league and for the past two seasons he was Head Coach and Director of Player Placement of the Ontario Hockey Academy.

Coach Dwyer says, "Luke is well known in the community; he has always been committed to the game as both a player and a coach. His coaching experiences in the Maritime Hockey League and as a head coach at the Ontario Hockey Academy will be an asset for the PEI Rocket. His addition complements our staff and will pay dividends in the development of our young players."

Beck jumped on board with the Rocket when the opportunity arose. He says, "I'm very excited to be returning home, especially to the Rocket organization. Good things are happening here and I'm excited to be joining the Team as we move forward building a winning team PEI deserves."

Tyrone Paul has also joined the Rocket business office as the Director of Sales and Marketing. Paul, who now resides in Murray River, PEI, has had success in sales and marketing over the past seven years.

One of the Rocket All-time favorites, Jimmy Bonneau, has also joined the Rocket on a part-time basis for the summer. Jimmy will be acting as an ambassador in the community. He began this role at the recent draft, as he met with all drafted players to talk about the organization and PEI as a whole.

Trent Birt, Rocket Vice-President of Operations, says adding a new coaching position and restructuring the front office is something that had to be done to run more efficiently. The people that filled those roles have been positive acquisitions for the entire organization. "We are fortunate to be adding Luke, Tyrone and Jimmy. Aside from having the skills and qualifications needed to do the job, they are passionate and committed; two required attributes for all involved with us. "

Serge Savard Jr. is also confident in this team moving forward. He added, "Today's announcements are a continuation of the good things that have been happening in the past while. We will continue to do what is needed to get better as we move forward."
