P.E.I. Rocket News Release

The PEI Rocket are planning another venture into the area of community involvement, this time the team will be serving spaghetti dinners in support of the Irving Oil Challenge Cup. On Tuesday, February 3rd, the SPRMHA host committee for the tournament will be holding a Minor Hockey Night to kick off the countdown to the Cup. It is also the last home game of the regular season, for the Mark's Work Warehouse Bantam AAA Falcons. Joe Doran, president of Sherwood Parkdale Rural Minor Hockey Association, will be inviting all minor hockey players from Novice to Midget and coaches to come out and support the Bantam AAA team.

Before the game, the host committee will be hosting a spaghetti dinner in the Maplewood Room (above the Cody Banks Arena) from 5:30-8:00 pm. This will be one of the major fundraisers for the 2009 Irving Oil Challenge Cup. As a special addition to this event, the PEI Rocket have announced that team members will be on hand to assist in serving the dinners.

"We were contacted by the host committee about being involved in some way. Rather than just show up and be on the outside looking in, we felt that it would be a good idea to be more involved and actually have our players involved in serving the spaghetti dinners", said General Manager, Kent Hudson.

Tammy Callaghan is the Chairperson of the host committee, said "it is great to get this type of support from the Rocket organization and their players. We really appreciate the support and look forward to having them involved".

The Irving Oil Challenge Cup showcases some of Atlantic Canada's most outstanding 13 and 14 year old hockey players. The teams involved represent the four Atlantic based associations: Hockey Nova Scotia, Hockey New Brunswick, Hockey Newfoundland and Labrador, and Hockey PEI. The Mark's Work Warehouse Bantam AAA Falcons, rounding out the five team competition as the Host Team, will compete for the Atlantic Canada Bantam AAA Championship.

For tickets, people can contact Tammy Callaghan and a limited number will be available at the door. The cost of the ticket is $10 (spaghetti dinner with homemade desserts) and includes admission to the game.
