Toronto, Ontario â Friday March 15, 2002 â With a playoff spot on the line, the Rock knew they had to come out strong and strong they were. The Rock jumped out to an amazing start, even after a bit of controversy that broke out just prior to the game.
The league officials measured Bob Watson and his pads were two inches too big around his bicep's. Equipment manager, Tim Large, made the appropriate adjustments and the game continued on. The 16, 796 cheered loudly and at times even incorporated the wave into the action as the Rock defeated the Saints 21-7.
With this win the Rock clinched their Northern Division.
The Rock opened the scoring in the first quarter with a goal from rookie sensation Blaine Manning at 2:07 and 7:05. Followed by Rock captain Jim Veltman, Ken Millin and Pat Coyle. The score at the end of the half was 5-0 for the Rock.
The Rock opened the game with a 10-goal streak that was unanswered until the 9:27 of the second quarter. Leading the way for the Rock was Blaine manning with 3 goals and 2 assists. The crowd was loud and into the action as the Rock outscored the Saints 6-2 during the second quarter. The Rock led 11-2 at the half.
The second half started a bit slower but the Rock continued to pummel the Saints scoring six more during the third quarter as New York could only add another 2 as the Rock extended their lead to 17-4.
This was the largest margin of victory this season. The largest victory ever was April 15, 2000. When the Rock Defeated Syracuse 25-11 in Syracuse.
The Rock's next game is Saturday March 16, 2002 in Rochester, New York as the Rock take on the Knighthawks.
