New Britain Rock Cats News Release
New Britain, CT - For the twenty-eighth consecutive year, New Britain Elks Lodge #957 will be hosting their "Welcome Home Dinner" for the New Britain Rock Cats Baseball Club on Wednesday, April 7, at 6:00 PM. The annual event also serves as an occasion to celebrate the start of the 2010 Baseball Season in central Connecticut. Every member of the Rock Cats organization including: players, coaches, front office personnel, and "Rocky", the team's popular mascot, will be present at the dinner. As in the past, Rock Cats players will meet and greet all those who attend, while also expressing their collective appreciation for the tremendous support the Connecticut baseball community has extended to this franchise for more than a quarter of a century.
Elks Lodge #957, located at 30 Washington Street in New Britain, has hosted this kick-off Dinner since 1983, the first year that the Eastern League franchise came to New Britain.
The Club's new Manager, 35-year-old Jeff Smith - who will be the first former New Britain player in franchise history to come back to lead the team, will be the Dinner's featured speaker, while the radio voice of Rock Cats Baseball, Jeff Dooley, will serve as Master of Ceremonies. Fans in attendance will get a preview of the upcoming season when Manager Smith introduces his full 2010 roster. Several prize drawing items will be awarded throughout the evening to lucky Rock Cats' fans- in conjunction with the Rock Cats Foundation - in which a variety of Rock Cats merchandise including tickets, autographed baseballs, apparel and other items will be available as prizes. Chairman of the Board, Coleman B. Levy, and Rock Cats President and CEO William F. Dowling, will also be present to welcome fans and answer questions about the exciting upcoming season.
Tickets for the "Welcome Home Dinner" are now available and can be obtained by contacting the Elks Lodge at (860) 223-2027. Please ask for Randy, Monday-Friday between 3 and 6 PM. The price is $15 per person with proceeds going to benefit the Connecticut Children's Medical Center in Hartford. The Rock Cats will commence their 28th season representing New Britain - and 38th overall in the state of Connecticut - on Thursday, April 8th when they host the New Hampshire Fisher Cats - the Eastern League partners of the American League's Toronto Blue Jays - for Opening Night 2010.
