June 2, 2014 - United Soccer League Championship (USL)
Rochester Rhinos News Release

The Rochester Rhinos defeated the Dayton Dutch Lions 1:0 on Sunday, June 1st at DOC Stadium in a game that featured a more than two-hour lightning delay. Levi Houapeau scored the night's only goal in the 46th minute off of an assist from Alex Dixon, and goalkeeper Luis Soffner made two saves on two shots faced for his first clean sheet of the season.

In the 18th minute Rochester's Houapeu came close as he hit the outside corner of the goal with a hard shot, and Dayton responded in the 26th minute as Guilherme Felix drove the ball down the left side and crossed right to Eli Garner, who tapped to Aaron Schoenfeld in the middle. Schoenfeld sent a hard left-footed shot that just missed the goal to the right.

The Lions created another good chance in the 37th minute when Brock Granger ran down the right and put the ball up for Garner, who came across in good position but couldn't handle the feed. Lions keeper Matt Williams kept his squad in the game in the 42nd minute when Rochester pressed hard and a fierce shot found him diving through the air for the save. Despite both teams having several chances, the game remained scoreless at the half.

Rochester finally broke through in the 46th minute when Alex Dixon sped down the right side with Dayton's Sebastian Thuriere at his side, but Dixon was quick on the cross and his ball found Houapeu, who sent it flying into the net.

In the 68th minute Rochester's Dixon nearly doubled the lead, sneaking behind Dayton's defense and firing a shot which hit the far post, denying a goal.

The game was then delayed for more than two hours by lightning, and after the break the Dutch Lions came out and tried to surprise the Rhinos with a long ball from the back to Joe Broekhuizen, but the ball was collected by Rhinos keeper Luis Soffner.

Desperate for a goal, the Dutch Lions began to resort to the long ball late and kept the pressure on Rochester's defense. The Rhinos held steady, however, to take the valuable 1-0 victory.

The three points moved Rochester into the sixth spot in the USL PRO table with 17 points from a 4 - 2 - 5 record while the Dayton Dutch Lions fell into 13th place in the 14 team USL PRO with 8 points from a 2 - 6 - 2 start to the 2014 season.
