Rochester Rattlers Mount Fourth Quarter Comeback to Defeat Boston

Atlanta, GA - The Boston Cannons dropped to 1-5 on the season in a 16-14 loss to the Rochester Rattlers tonight in front of 4,417 fans at the first professional lacrosse game played in Georgia. The Cannons never trailed until the fourth quarter, when the Rattlers scored five goals to the Cannons' one to complete the comeback victory. Paul Rabil (2 goals, 2 assists) and Pat Heim (1 goal, 3 assists) led the Cannons offense with four points each. The first quarter featured back-and-forth scoring with two highlight-reel goals for the Cannons. Chris Eck won the opening face-off and scored unassisted seven seconds into the contest - a play he would repeat less than four minutes later. Steven Boyle answered for the Rattlers on the next possession, setting the give-and-take tempo. Matt Poskay scored twice in the quarter, including a one-handed behind-the-back tally after scooping the rebound of a Rabil shot. Heim scored his first goal of the season and Will Manny fought through traffic to score one-handed. Matt Streibel struck twice for the Rattlers, including a two-pointer, but the Cannons held a 6-5 edge at the end of the quarter.

Rabil, held to one assist in the first quarter, scored the first two goals of the second, increasing the Cannons' lead. Boyle answered with his second of the night for Rochester, before Manny scored on a crease dive and Kyle Sweeney added another for the Cannons. The Rattlers then went on a three-goal run to close the quarter and stay within one as the first half ended 10-9 in favor of Boston.

Mike Stone opened the third quarter scoring for the Cannons, followed by player of the game Jordan MacIntosh completing his hat trick for the Rattlers to keep Rochester within one. Brian Farrell then fired his second career two-point goal past goalie John Galloway to increase the lead. John Ranagan beat Jordan Burke for his first career goal before the end of the quarter, but the Cannons held a 13-11 advantage entering the fourth. The Rattlers took over for the final 15 minutes of play, beginning with a goal from Ned Crotty, MacIntosh's fourth of the night and Ranagan's second to take the lead. Poskay completed his hat trick to tie it back up at 14, but Steve DeNapoli scored 10 seconds later off the face-off and Ranagan completed his own hat trick to seal the victory. Burke made 21 saves and Eck won 20 of 32 face-offs (63%) over former teammate John Ortolani in the loss. Ryan Boyle was held with no points for the first time since June 9, 2012 against the Lizards.

The Cannons next travel to Charlotte, NC on Saturday, June 15 to take on the Hounds (7pm). The next home game is Friday, June 21 against the New York Lizards (7:30pm).
