Rochester Rattlers Clinch 2015 Playoff Berth

BROCKPORT, NY (Sunday, July 12, 2015) The one goal loss to Denver (12-11) in the MLL Championship game in 2014 has left a lingering and stale taste in the mouth of the Rochester Rattlers. That one goal came with less than a minute in regulation from Drew Snider, after a 2 pointer from Jeremy Sieverts tied the game earlier. The Rattlers are now poised to readdress that loss and that feeling of coming so close, as Major League Lacrosse has announced Rochester as one of 3 teams that have been guaranteed a playoff spot in the 2015 MLL post season.
The Rattlers clinched that berth with a tightly contested win over the visiting Chesapeake Bayhawks on Sunday afternoon 14-13. Now the team that represents all of Western NY at the highest level of lacrosse gets to make another run at the Steinfeld Trophy. With the NY Lizards clinching the first seed, they will be guaranteed hosting duties on Saturday, August 1st . With Ohio being the other team that has also locked in a spot, Boston and Chesapeake are the two remaining teams looking to get in. With it being such a close race, seeding for spots 2-4 won't come to fruition until at least this coming weekend's games.
Coach Tim Soudan commented on the announcement stating "We are really excited to have clinched this playoff spot. Our focus is going to be to continue to get better and eliminate mistakes so we peak at playoff time."
The first round of the playoffs is slated for Saturday, August 1st and will be at 4 pm and 7 pm (NY Lizards to host). Tickets will go on sale on Tuesday, July 14th for the potential playoff game that the Rattlers may host. The game, if played, will be contested at the Rattlers home field in Brockport NY, Shriver Stadium.
Rochester returns home this Friday, July 17th against the visiting Charlotte Hounds for the first night game of the season at 7:30 pm. Call 340-6905 or log onto www.rochesterrattlers.com for tickets.
