Rochester Rattlers Battle Philadelphia Barrage Saturday at WakeMed Soccer Park

Cary, NC (Friday, June 20th, 2008) - The Rochester Rattlers travel to play the Philadelphia Barrage on Saturday, June 21st at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, NC at 7:30 PM. "The Barrage are excited to be headed to Cary NC this weekend" said Barrage Head Coach Tony Resch. "We are hoping to build on the momentum gained from our exciting overtime win last Saturday. We look forward to the support of our "hometown" fans as we take on the Rochester Rattlers for the second time this season."

In the first meeting, the Rattlers blasted the Philadelphia Barrage 22-9 at PAETEC Park on May 31st. A win Saturday would give the Rattlers their first series sweep of the Barrage since 2003. Rochester is 4-5 against Philadelphia and has won the last two contests. However, the Rattlers were 8-0 against the Barrage before they moved to Philadelphia.

The Rattlers (3-2) enter the week in a four-way tie for first place in the Eastern Conference, despite dropping its second straight contest. Rochester suffered a 16-12 loss to the New Jersey Pride on June 14th. John Grant led the Rattlers with three goals and one assist, while Brett Bucktooth chipped in with a pair of goals and assists on the night. Goaltender Mike Levin took the loss with nine saves, 15 goals against, and only 51:27 minutes played, before being relieved by rookie goaltender Adam Fullerton early in the fourth quarter. Fullerton completed his professional debut with two saves and one goal against.

Grant leads the MLL in scoring with 20 goals and 28 points. Brodie Merrill also leads all league defensemen with seven points (3+4). Further, midfielder Alex Smith is tied for the MLL lead with 36 ground balls.

Philadelphia broke its two-game losing streak with a 12-11 overtime win over the Chicago Machine last Saturday. Roy Colsey forced overtime with five seconds to play and Seth Goldberg won it at 1:42 of OT. Goldberg finished the game with three goals and one assist.

Goldberg is tied for third in the MLL with 15 goals. Goalie Brian Dougherty is 3-2 this season and is the league's all-time leader in wins with 51. Kyle Sweeney is second in the league in scoring among defensemen with five points (3+2).
