Rochester Native Musicians To Perform National Anthem Before Razorsharks Playoff Game
March 17, 2008 - Premier Basketball League (PBL)
Rochester RazorSharks News Release
(Rochester, NY)...Rochester native musicians of the band D: Drive, Don Mancuso and Phil Naro, will be performing the National Anthem before the start of the RazorSharks' East Division Championship game this Thursday, March 20th at 7:05pm at the Blue Cross Arena. The RazorSharks will play the winner of the East Division Quarterfinals, which is being played at the Attack Athletics Center in Chicago, IL on Wednesday, March 19th at 11:00am.
Mancuso and Naro formed the classic rock band D: Drive in 2005 along with Bob Bond (drums) and John Taylor (bass). The band released its self-titled first album in 2005 along with vocals on 4 tracks from Rochester native, Lou Gramm, front man of the 80's super-group Foreigner. D: Drive's second cd, "Straight Up The Middle", made its debut in early 2007 as a self-published effort, but was re-released by Chavis Records in July 2007.
Don Mancuso began playing guitar at the age of six and began playing in earnest when he was a teen. By age 18, he was playing professionally with the blues-rock band Black Sheep, featuring vocalist Lou Gramm of Foreigner. After Black Sheep, came many other bands, mainly known for his guitar playing in the 80's rock band "Cheater", which quickly gained recognition in the northeastern U.S. with the 10-inch EP, Ten Cent Love Affair. Over the years Mancuso has worked with a host of other artists including Imaginary Few, Johnny Smoke, Linda Rutherford & Celtic Fire, Steve Robb, Red Heart, Jessica Hamilton and Regi Hendrix.
Phil Naro is now based out of Toronto. Phil's distinct vocal style & stage presence have earned him a reputation as a world class front-man. Phil is definitely one of rock's premier singer/songwriters currently active in the business today. Phil indulged himself by constantly writing and recording songs with other musicians in Rochester and Buffalo prior to being recruited by the World's greatest Bass Player, Billy Sheehan to be the throat of Talas in 1983. Other accomplishments include writing songs for Lee Aaron's 1989 multi-platinum selling album "Body Rock" and studio work with Lou Gramm of Foreigner and Grammy winning Producer Tom Lord-Alge (Billy Joel, The Cure, Steve Winwood, Marilyn Manson, and Rolling Stones).
