Rochester Lancers Comeback Falls Short

Rochester Lancers News Release
(Rochester, NY) - The Rochester Lancers (5-6) had a fourth quarter comeback fall just short as they fell to the Milwaukee Wave (7-2) 14-12 at Christopher J. Wilmot Field at the Blue Cross Arena. MISL leading scorer Doug Miller led the Lancers offensively with three goals giving him 54 points on the season. Luan Oliveria had an 8 point night (3 2-point goals and 2 assists) for the Wave.
The scoring started early with Oliveria scoring once and Miller scoring twice in the first three minutes of play. Marcio Leite and Ian Bennett would score for Milwaukee to give the Wave a 6-4 lead after the first quarter.
Jeremy Ortiz would tie the game early in the second quarter for the Lancers. But, Milwaukee would get goals by Hewerton and Oliveria to take a 10-6 lead into the locker room for the halftime interval.
Oliveria would get the lone goal in a very defensive third quarter of action.
The Lancers would make the finish an exciting one as Miller scored on a penalty kick to get the Lancers to within four points. With Ortiz on as the sixth attacker, Bennett would score his second of the game to push the Wave lead back to six. The Lancers would get goals by Paul Craig and Stephen Basso in the last three minutes to pull within two points, but the equalizer never came and the Wave escaped with the 14-12 win.
With six goals by the Lancers this evening Dunkin Donuts will donate six pounds of coffee to Foodlink. So far this season Dunkin Donuts has donated 67 pounds of coffee.
The Lancers will return to action at Christopher J. Wilmot Field at the Blue Cross Arena on Tuesday, January 1st when they host the Baltimore Blast at 4 pm. All matches can be heard live on the Lancers flagship station Fickle 93.3 FM with veteran broadcaster Joe Giuliano once again calling all of the action. In addition all MISL matches can be seen live via webcast at www.MISLLive.com.
