Rochester Knighthawks host Buffalo tonight

Game Notes: The Rochester Knighthawks host the Buffalo Bandits tonight at 7:35 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial. The game is the second of two trips to the Flower City for the Bandits. The contest will be broadcast on News Talk 950 WROC and knighthawks.net, and will also be televised on WB16.

Last Meeting: The Buffalo Bandits blitzed Rochester 11-7 on February 19th at The Blue Cross Arena. That night, John Tavares recorded his 1,000th career point in a seven-point effort (3+4). In goal, Steve Dietrich was a wall, stopping 43 Rochester shots. Rochester got three-point performances from John Grant (1+2) and Shawn Williams (1+2). The victory was the first regular-season win in Rochester by Buffalo since February 15, 1997. The loss ended Rochester's nine-game home winning streak against the Bandits.

Series Recap: Last season, the Knighthawks and Bandits split the season series, as each team won two games at home. All four contests were decided by one goal, with one game going to overtime and another ending in double OT. The two teams also met in the 2004 playoffs. Last season, Buffalo won its first-round playoff matchup, 13-9, over Rochester at The Blue Cross Arena. The Knighthawks lead the all-time series with a 15-8 record.

Knighthawks Notes: The K-Hawks are in the midst of 11-straight games against Eastern Division opponents. Rochester is currently 5-2 during the stretch. John Grant enters the game second in the league with 72 points in 10 games (34+38). The contest tonight is the first home game in a month for the Knighthawks, who last played on February 19th against Buffalo. Mike Accursi had his best offensive game as a Knighthawk last Saturday night in Philadelphia. The forward notched one goal and six assists in a 13-12 win. Rookie Pat Dutton scored his first professional game-winning goal early in the fourth quarter. Forward Shawn Williams had six points (3+3) to move ahead of Curt Malawsky and into fifth place on the team's all-time point list. He also moved within two goals of passing Malawsky (134) for fourth place on the K-Hawks' goal-scoring list.

Bandits Notes: Buffalo defeated the Minnesota Swarm 13-11 last night behind three goals and two assists from rookie Delby Powless. The Bandits have won their last three games to take over first place in the Eastern Division with an 8-3 record. John Tavares leads the NLL with 76 points (32+44) in 11 games. He was just named the NLL Overall and Offensive Player of the Week after recording five goals and five assists in a 23-16 road victory over Minnesota. Buffalo forward A.J. Shannon plays field lacrosse for the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse. Last summer, he finished third on the Rattlers with 36 points (29+7) in 12 games.

John Grant at Dick's Sporting Goods on Sunday: Rochester Knighthawks forward John Grant will make an appearance at the Dick's Sporting Goods location in Marketplace Mall on Sunday, March 20th at 2:00 p.m. The National Lacrosse League All-Star will greet fans and sign autographs for one hour at Dick's at 1175 Marketplace Drive. Grant leads the league with 34 goals and is tied for first with 72 points in 10 games.

Pregame Party at Nathaniel's Pub: The Knighthawks will hold their official pregame party at Nathaniel's Pub at 251 Exchange Blvd. The festivities begin at 5:00 p.m. Fans can redeem their Knighthawks ticket stubs for one free Labatt Blue or Blue Light draft after the game.

Postgame Party: Fans can meet the Rochester and Buffalo players at the official postgame party at Bennigan's Grill and Tavern in the Clarion Riverside Hotel.

Next Game: Rochester prepares for a home-and-home series with the Minnesota Swarm. The Knighthawks travel to play the Swarm on Friday, March 25th at 8:30 p.m. at the Xcel Energy Center. The following night, Rochester hosts Minnesota at 7:35 p.m. at The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial. The games will be broadcast on News Talk 950 WROC and knighthawks.net. The Saturday game will also be televised live on WB16.
