Rochester Getting Ready Now

Rochester RazorSharks News Release

Rochester's fourth consecutive appearance in the Premier Basketball League finals begins at the War Memorial on Friday. But RazorShark coach Rod Baker has his guys actively preparing for the series already.

After Friday's game, the team plays Sunday and Monday (if necessary) in Oklahoma, against the defending PBL champion Lawton-Fort Sill Cavalry. That amounts to the possibility of three games in four nights. So on Tuesday, the coach instructed his guys to start taking better care of themselves.

"The body is very adaptive," says Baker. "It'll do what you ask it to do if you give it a chance. You can't ask your body to deal with being in a stressful situation without preparing it."

That means, among other things, smaller but more frequent meals, no soda and lots of water.

"You can't start hydrating your body mid game on Friday, much less when we get down there. We have to start doing all the extra stuff now, so that when we get there, it's no big deal."

Rochester prides itself on superior conditioning. Baker disperses his minutes through his ten man roster. He doesn't see that as an advantage this week though because he says, the Cavalry do the same thing.

"Both these teams have a tremendous amount of respect for each other. We do what we do, they do what they do. You have to hope that you find eight quarters where what you do is better than what they do. Then you have a chance."

Coach is on his own health kick. Baker recently eliminated sugar and white flour from his diet.
