San Angelo Saints News Release
SAN ANGELO â The San Angelo Saints today are excited to announce that they team has re-signed it's leading goal scorer from last season as forward Steve Roberts will once again wear the black-and-gold and lead the Saints' offense next season.
Roberts averaged more than a point per game and was the Saints 4th leading scorer last season despite not joining the team until midway through the year. In just 34 games he scored 27 goals to lead the team and added 15 assists for 42 points total. Roberts was also 2nd on the Saints in power-play goals (8) and had the team's top shooting percentage. The 5-11, 200 pound right-winger will hold down one of the Saints' five veteran slots allowed for each team by CHL rules.
"Anytime you can get a guy who can score 27 goals in 34 games you have to grab him," said Saints head coach Ray Edwards. "It was one of my top priorities from day one to get Roberts back for this season. But, besides his great scoring ability, we are also looking for veteran leadership from Roberts and are counting on him to help develop some of the young players we are going to have."
Originally from Victoria, British Columbia, Roberts began his professional career in 1995 with the Dayton Bombers of the ECHL. He also spent parts of two seasons in the upper level IHL and AHL before spending the last 4 seasons playing in England. In 331 pro games Roberts has notched 201 goals and 128 assists (329 points) to average just about a point per game over his career.
