New Mexico Scorpions News Release
[ RIO RANCHO, N.M.]- The New Mexico Scorpions, proud member of the Central Hockey League (CHL), pushed their win streak to five with a 6-5 victory over the rival Sundogs Friday night. All six of the Scorpions goals came on the special teams.
Chris Robertson paved the way registering the Scorpions' first hat trick of the season. It is the first Scorpions hat trick since Feb. 18, 2005 when Mike Oliveira scored three goals in Rio Grande Valley .
The teams put on an exciting show for the fans as the new CHL rivalry continues to be tight. The Scorpions took the lead into the locker room after 20-miuntes, but the Sundogs tied the game up in the second period setting up an exciting final frame.
The power play proved to be the difference for the Scorpions as Aaron MacInnis and Vladimir Hartinger lit the lamp giving the Scorpions enough goals to hang on for the victory.
Robertson started his night scoring on the power play 1:04 into the contest. Konrad Reeder pushed the Scorpions two goals ahead six minutes later with his sixth goal of the season.
Arizona 's Brent Kelly put his team on the board with the first of his four points on the night. Robertson would add his second goal of the night before the end of the first period as would Kelly.
Early in the second period, Ryan Steeves tied the game up and silenced what was a raucous Santa Ana Star Center most of the night. Robertson finished his hat trick with another power play goal 17:37 into the second period. The Sundogs once again fought back when Dan DaSilva scored his fifth goal of the season with 11-seconds to go in the middle period.
The five power play goals for the Scorpions is a new season high. Previously, the Scorpions highest man advantage output was three goals, which they did four times.
