Rocky Mountain Rage News Release
Broomfield, Colo. - The Rocky Mountain Rage hockey team (Central Hockey League) picked up one point in a 4-3 overtime loss against the Colorado Eagles tonight at the Broomfield Event Center. Rage left winger Nathan Rosychuk led both teams in scoring with two goals and an assist. The Rage is now 6-13-3 on the season while the Eagles own a 16-4-0 record. Rocky Mountain is winless in its last five games.
The Rage earned their quickest goal to start a game in team history tonight. Rosychuk shot the puck in net on a rebound from Jordan Little and Matic Kralj just 19 seconds into the game. Anders Strome previously scored the fastest goal just 20 seconds into the Oct. 27 game against Youngstown. The Eagles answered back just 27 seconds later with a goal by Craig Strain to tie the game.
Colorado took their first lead of the game at 4:59 on a goal by Riley Nelson, but Rocky Mountain evened it up once again going into intermission. For his second goal of the night, Rosychuk fired a short-handed slapshot in net at 14:42 beating Eagles goaltender Marco Emond from the stick-side.
The Eagles drew the first goal of the second period on the powerplay. Strain and Aaron Schneekloth made cross-ice passes and Colorado's Ryan Tobler roofed the puck at 8:11 for the lead.
Despite the Eagles lead early in the second period, Rocky Mountain dominated play outshooting Colorado 15-7.
Late in the second period, Rosychuk kept the puck behind the Eagles goal for the better part of 30 seconds. After being knocked down to his knees, Rosychuk passed to Rage defenseman Jordan Little who was streaking in from the blueline and fired a slap shot over the left glove shoulder of Emond.
Momentum shifted in the third period as the Eagles outshot the Rage 13-8. But the Rage, led by goaltender David Guerrera, kept Colorado scoreless in the third. Little's goal in the second closed out scoring for the remainder of regulation. Colorado's Ryan Tobler added his second goal of the game at 2:09 in overtime for the game-winner.
