Roberto Clemente, Jr. to Headline B-Mets Latin American Night August 18
August 13, 2009 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Billings Outlaws News Release
Roberto Clemente, Jr., son of Hall-of-Fame right fielder Roberto Clemente, will appear at NYSEG Stadium Tuesday, August 18 as the Binghamton Mets celebrate Latin American Night at the team's 6:30 game with the New Britain Rock Cats. All fans who bring new or gently used baseball equipment for donation to Roberto's Kids will receive a ticket to a future 2009 B-Mets home game.
Roberto's Kids is a non-profit organization that seeks to provide the equipment necessary for youngsters around the world to be introduced to the game of baseball and thereby develop social and community responsibility through the character built playing the game.
Roberto's Kids Program Headquarters is located just north of Binghamton in Oneonta, NY, where founder Steve Pindar executed the first successful equipment drive for shipment to the Dominican Republic.
The significance of the August 18th date is enhanced, in that it would be Roberto Clemente, Sr.'s 75th birthday. Clemente passed away New Year's Eve of 1972 in a plane crash destined for Nicaragua, where Clemente, the consummate humanitarian, was intending to provide aid to the earthquake-torn capital of Managua. He had visited Managua three weeks prior to the quake.
Gates open at 5:30 PM for the Tuesday game. It is a Two-For-Tuesday with 2-for-1 prices on select cold drinks at the ballpark and the night will conclude with another installment of the Toyota Fireworks Series. For tickets and further information, call (607) 723-METS.
