The Amarillo Dusters announced today the assignment from the af2 league office of former Texas Tech Standout Quarterback and Receiver Robert Johnson.
"Robert has tremendous upside as a quarterback, and can play at the next level once he develops," said Dusters Head Coach Chris MacKeown. "He is a natural leader and a winner on the field. He's won three championships now, and he has all the physical tools that we are looking for."
The 6'2, 220 lb Johnson joins the Dusters as a quarterback, having just returned from Europe where he played in Finland with the Poorvo Butchers. He quarterbacked his team to a 9-1 record and the International Federation of American Football Championship. He was named Team MVP for 2007 as well as the Championship Game MVP. He passed for 2,076 yards and 23 touchdowns.
In 2001, Johnson was the Georgia Player of the Year after quarterbacking Americus High School in Americus, GA to a State Championship. He set state records for passing yards in a season (3,287) and touchdowns in a season (39).
From 2002-2003, Johnson played Quarterback at Reedley Junior College in Reedley, CA. During his tenure, Reedley went 21-2, and won the JUCO National Championship in 2002. Johson was named 1st Team All-American and was named by various publications as the nation's No. 1 Quarterback recruit. He passed for 4,367 yards and 34 touchdowns.
After red-shirting in 2004, Johnson made a name for himself as a wide receiver at Texas Tech, leading the team in receiving over his junior and senior seasons. He was named Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Year and 2nd Team All-Big 12 in 2005. In 2006, he set a school record with 15 receptions in a victory over SMU. He finished his career at Texas Tech with 156 receptions for 1,822 yards and 15 touchdowns.
