Amarillo Venom News Release

The Amarillo Dusters introduced today the new ownership group and head coach for the Amarillo Dusters. The Dusters also announced the signing of a 3-year lease agreement with the Amarillo Civic Center, and the location of their new headquarters in the historic Paramount building.

Doug MacGregor is the one of the new owners of the Amarillo Dusters, and President of the Texas AF2 Holdings.

"Our role is to ensure that the Amarillo Dusters are a team that this region is proud of both on and off the field," MacGregor said.

Like everyone in the organization, he is responsible for customer service and satisfaction. To achieve our goal, he must build a strong management team, ensure that the management team is aligned with the values of the organization and has the resources that they need to achieve our mission.

"One of our focuses will be in heading up a Strategic Goals Committee at the league level to ensure we have strong teams that are focused on sustainable growth," MacGregor said.

MacGregor combines a broad range of business experiences from chip design to high tech business management. He has a Ph.D. in Information Sciences from Kyoto University, a M.S. in Computer Science from University of Illinois and a B.A. in History from University of Maryland. He served in the US Navy for six years.

MacGregor has also established The MacGregor Foundation, a non-profit organization committed to support 12 step-based drug and alcohol recovery in the Austin community. In 1999, MacGregor endowed the Muroga-Faiman Professorship at the University of Illinois and has been a member of the United Way Alexis de Tocqueville Society. MacGregor serves on the Board of Capital Area United Way and is President of the Board of Austin Recovery, the only agency in the Central Texas area to provide drug and alcohol treatment for the working poor. Considered one of the most impressive return men in NFL history, Glyn Milburn is the Vice President of Texas AF2 Holdings, managers of 9 af2 franchises across the country. Milburn brings experience from the highest levels of football, an eye for talent, keen business sense and the energy to provide support for the Amarillo Dusters Organization. As Vice President of Texas AF2 Holdings, Milburn is responsible for the management of the General Managers and Head Coaches for each of the af2 teams within their ownership group. This includes hiring and the evaluation of coaches and well as working closely with Doug MacGregor on the front office support of each team. Milburn was previously the General Manager of the Austin Wranglers where he spent 4 years in salary cap management and talent evaluation.

While playing in the NFL, Milburn employed his business sense, acquiring interest in businesses across the country including Plaza Copy in Irvine and Santa Ana, California and Loop Legal Copies in Chicago. Since Milburn retired from the NFL, he has been involved in managing private equity investments in real estate, energy, and technology. Milburn joined the Wranglers staff in 2003 prior to the first season. Milburn retired from professional football in 2002 rounding out a ten-year career. Originally drafted in the 1993 NFL draft by the Denver Broncos in the second round, Milburn spent time with Denver, Detroit, Chicago and San Diego. He was selected to the Pro Bowl as a return specialist in 1995 and 1999 and was named an alternate in 1997. When he retired, Milburn was third on the NFL's all-time kickoff return yardage list with 9,788 yards, behind only Brian Mitchell and Mel Gray. In college, Milburn was a two-time All-American at Stanford, where he starred as a running back, wide receiver and kick returner after transferring from Oklahoma. He completed his college career with 6,363 total yards and 25 touchdowns, holding Stanford's career record for punt return touchdowns with four. Milburn was an Academic All-American at Stanford, graduating with a bachelor of arts in public policy. Coach Chris MacKeown joins the Dusters after having spent the past nine seasons coaching arena football, most recently coaching the Austin Wranglers in 2007. MacKeown spent the 1999 season with the now-defunct IFL as a coordinator with the Dayton Skyhawks. In 2000, he was promoted to head coach of the Skyhawks and led them to the playoffs. In 2001, he accepted an assistant coaching position with the AFL's Indiana Firebirds, under AFL coaching legend, Mike Dailey. In 2003, MacKeown became the head coach of the Cincinnati Swarm in the af2, and led them to a 7-9 record as an expansion team. Several players of that team made the jump to AFL and are still active at the next level. In 2004 and 2005, MacKeown served as the offensive coordinator for the Louisville Fire of af2. In 2005, the Fire advanced to the Arena Cup Championship game against the Memphis Xplorers. In 2006, MacKeown joined the staff of the AFL's Columbus Destroyers, coaching special teams and serving as an offensive assistant as well. MacKeown has three main goals for himself and the Amarillo Dusters. "I want to bring a championship to the city of Amarillo, and I want to build a team that Amarillo can be proud of, " MacKeown said. "Third, I want to eat the 72 oz. Steak at the Big Texan in an hour." Coach MacKeown has a wife, Alisa, and two daughters, Brittany - 7, and Danielle - 3. The Amarillo Dusters will begin their 5th season in af2 when training camp begins next March. 2008 season tickets are on sale now.
