Topeka Pilots News Release
The Topeka RoadRunners are back on track after a pair of losses on home ice as they traveled to North Texas to face the first place Wichita Falls Wildcats. Friday night, led by a Michael Hill four point night including a hat trick the 'Runners topped the 'Cats 6-3, handing Wichita Falls their first loss in regulation all season. "You need your veterans to play like veterans when your up against the top teams in the league and Michael certainly played like that this past weekend in Wichita Falls", said Head Coach / GM Scott Langer. Rasmus Tirronen turned aside 36 shots and picked up his fourth win. On Saturday, Ryan White led the way for Topeka with a two goal game and Topeka never trailed as they completed the sweep with a convincing 5-1 win. "Ryan played very well this weekend and was a big factor in both wins in Wichita Falls", said assistant coach R.J. Enga. He was good on draws and made good decisions with the puck on the power play." Eric Rohrkemper stopped 29 shots and moves to 3-0-1 on the year.
Forward Andrew O'Leary had a big weekend as well with 5 points (2g, 3a). "Andrew really stepped up his game this past weekend in Wichita Falls. Reflecting on O'Leary's contribution, Enga said, "He has been working very hard so it is nice to see him get some reward in the scoring column."
Saturday's win was a landmark victory for Scott Langer, as it was his 250th win as head coach of the RoadRunners. He has been behind the bench since the franchise arrived in Santa Fe in September 2004. His record including postseason stands at 250-115-34 for an impressive win percentage of .669.
Topeka is now in a three way tie for second place with Texas and Amarillo, just one point behind Wichita Falls. Topeka has a game in hand on the rest of the division. This coming weekend the RoadRunners make their first ever trip to Amarillo. The 'Runners beat Amarillo 3-2 and 5-0 six weeks ago in preseason action in Topeka.
