TOPEKA, KS, MAy 20, 2009: The North American Hockey League held its 2009 Entry Draft on Wednesday, and the RoadRunners were busy, selecting 10 players who will compete for spots on the team.

Head Coach Scott Langer along with his Chief of Scouting Operations Tom Kelly executed the draft day decisions, conducted by conference call around the league. The draft breakdown looks like this:

Rd.1 (18th overall) - Jimmy Murray. A forward with speed, skill and a scoring touch. Non-stop worker.

Rd.2 (37th overall) - Chris Bond. A solid left handed defenseman, good all-around player.

Rd.3 (56th overall) - Harry Quast. A big, mobile defenseman who can have an immediate impact.

Rd.4 (62nd overall) - Casey O'Connor. (This pick in the draft was acquired in the trade that sent Gustav Bengtson to Kenai River last season.) O'Connor has been a winner everywhere he has gone. He was #1 goalie in the state of Minnesota. Played on Team Minnesota that won the Chicago Showcase, allowing just 1 goal in 4 games.

Rd.4 (76th overall) - Tony Thomas. A big, skilled forward at 6'4". Excellent skills, sees ice well, plays both center and wing and can score.

Rd.5 (95th overall) - Kitt Sitterly. A hard working, quick skater with non-stop energy and a blue collar work ethic.

Rd.6 (114th overall) - Nick Gatt. A very athletic defenseman from Detroit Catholic. Well coached with a big upside.

Rd.7 (129th overall) - Daniel Sherer. A forward from Team Illinois, regarded as a smooth, polished skater and the tools to be a big time player.

Rd.8 (141st overall) - Willie Faricy. A fast defenseman from St. Paul, MN. NHL veteran Phil Housely put it this way: "This kid has some magic, he could be something special".

Rd.9 (152nd overall) - Darren Lapic. A forward from New Prague HS, he's a big, strong skater who is already getting college attention.

The RoadRunners will also have two tryout camps this summer before players report to Topeka in late August. For the latest information on the team, visit www.topekaroadrunners.com .
