RoadRunners Come To Terms With Carefoot, Stevens

PHOENIX, Ariz. - The Phoenix RoadRunners of the ECHL, a proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks and the Worcester Sharks, announced today that forwards Mitch Carefoot and Chris Stevens have each agreed to terms on contracts for the 2008-09 season.

Carefoot, 23, tallied 12 goals and 33 points in 70 games with the RoadRunners as a rookie in 2007-08, and finished sixth on the club in scoring. The Dauphin, Manitoba native enjoyed seven multiple-point outings and produced 23 of his 33 points in the final 41 games of the season. Prior to signing with the RoadRunners, Carefoot compiled a four-year collegiate career at NCAA Division I Cornell University from 2003-2007 and totaled 25 goals, 20 assists, and 45 points in 122 games. He concluded his collegiate career as the recipient of the 2006-07 Nicky Bawlf Award given annually to Cornell's Most Valuable Player. Carefoot was an eighth round draft choice (#237 overall) of the Atlanta Thrashers at the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.

Stevens, 21, notched eight goals and 25 points in 67 games as a rookie in 2007-08, and was second among RoadRunners' first-year players with 110 penalty minutes. The Dawson Creek, British Columbia native came to Phoenix after averaging nearly a point per game during a four-year junior career with 119 goals, 132 assists, and 251 points in 257 games from 2003-2007 between Medicine Hat of the Western Hockey League and Prince George of the British Columbia Hockey League. Stevens led Medicine Hat to the 2007 WHL Championship and a place in the 2007 Memorial Cup.

Carefoot and Stevens are the first players to agree to terms with the RoadRunners for the 2008-09 season.
