Road to the Championship is in Sight

January 16, 2006 - Intense Football League (Intense)
San Angelo Stampede Express News Release

The San Angelo Stampede Express of the Intense Football League has been mapping out a path to the President's Cup since this off-season began. It started with the declaration of team co-owner Darlene Jones that the team's goal was to "WIN FOOTBALL GAMES!" It continued with the hiring of General Manager Bridget Jones and new Head Coach J.T. Smith. The road also includes the return of four of last year's top players: Demont Burdine, Wali Mumin, Toby Davis, and Barrett Dallmeyer. Now the final stretch of that road is in sight with the release of the 2006 schedule.

The Stampede Express will play a 14 game schedule consisting of 7 home and 7 away games. The team will open the season with an exhibition game on April 22nd at the Ector County Coliseum against bitter rival, the Odessa Roughnecks. That game will be the first of five meetings between the two teams, the exhibition game and four regular season match-ups. The Stampede Express opens regular season play at home the following Saturday, April 29, against the expansion CenTex Barracudas. The Barracudas will visit San Angelo again on June 17th. The league's other expansion team, the Laredo Lobos, will visit in back-to-back games June 24th and July 1st.

The stretch run will be challenging for the team with three of the final four games on the road. The regular season concludes on July 29th in Odessa. Four teams will qualify for the playoffs with the top two seeds hosting games the weekend of August 5th. The Championship Game will be played at the highest remaining seed the following Saturday August 12th. The IFL All-Star game will be held one week after the Championship Game on August 19th. The site for the All-Star Game has yet to be determined.

The Stampede Express will begin their 3rd season April 29, 2006 against the CenTex Barracudas at the San Angelo Coliseum. Season tickets are currently available at the Stampede Express offices located at the San Angelo Convention Center or by calling 947-DOWN (3696) or 653-9577. Stampede Express Football...
