DANBURY, CT - The Connecticut Whale today announced the signing of Maggie LaGue, the formidable defender who played at Robert Morris University from 2016-2019 and served as team captain in her senior season.

The addition of the highly-skilled and accomplished LaGue, selected by the Whale with the 22nd overall pick in the 2018 NWHL Draft, is a boon to an already strong Whale blueline. LaGue holds RMU records for assists (79) and points (92) by a defender.

"Being a member of a league that is helping pave the way for generations to come is an incredible opportunity and I am so excited to be part of it," said LaGue. "I am very honored to sign with the Connecticut Whale for my first NWHL season, and I am very thankful for those who supported me to help make this dream a reality."

The 5-7 defender had at least 22 points in each of her four seasons at Robert Morris. In her 141-game collegiate career, LaGue had 13 goals and 79 assists for 92 points.

While leading the Colonials to their third straight conference title in her senior season in 2018-19, LaGue was named First Team All-CHA and received the CHA Individual Sportsmanship Award. That season, she finished first in NCAA Division I in power play assists (13) and points (16), and eighth in blocked shots (92).

Prior to RMU, LaGue developed as a player at the North American Hockey Academy in her home state of Vermont and participated in four U.S. National Player Development camps.

"Maggie will play a large role for us in all situations," said Connecticut GM Bray Ketchum. "We are thrilled to welcome Maggie for her first season in the NWHL, and we look forward to watching her grow as a pro."
