Camden Riversharks News Release

CAMDEN - The Camden Riversharks announced today that they have agreed to terms with infielder Brett Bonvechio for the 2010 season. After playing for Camden in both the 2008 and 2009 seasons, the California native will return to the Riversharks for his third stint with the team.

"We expect Brett to be a major contributor for us this year," said Riversharks Manager Von Hayes. "Not only is he a guy who can swing the bat, but his ability to play multiple infield positions makes him very versatile and very valuable to the team."

Bonvechio, 26, was originally selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 37th round of the 2000 draft. He spent two seasons with the Red Sox before being traded to the San Diego Padres organization in 2004. As a member of the Padres for four years, Bonvechio played at both the single A and double A levels. He joined the Riversharks in 2008.

Bonvechio appeared in 44 games for the Riversharks and compiled a.227 batting average while driving in 39 runs during the 2008 season. He was then signed by the Chicago White Sox organization mid season, and finished out the 2008 campaign with the Winston Salem Dash of the Carolina League.

Last year, Bonvechio returned to Camden and played in 107 games for the Riversharks during his second spell with the team. He finished the 2009 season with a.269 batting average, 46 RBIs, and seven homeruns. He looks to build off of those numbers this year.

"I'm excited to be back on the east coast, and I'm expecting big things for us this year," said Bonvechio. "After missing out on the playoffs last year, I feel like we have some unfinished business. As one of the leaders of the team, it's my job to make sure we get the job done this season, and I plan on making that happen," he added.

The Riversharks open their 10th Anniversary Season, presented by Wawa, on Thursday, April 22nd, on the road against the Newark Bears. The team will play their home opener at Campbell's Field against the Bears on April 30th, 2010, at 7:05 PM. Individual and group tickets are now on sale, and can be purchased online at http://www.riversharks.com/ www.riversharks.com or by calling 1-866-SHARKS-9.
