CAMDEN- Travis Anderson crushed two solo homeruns to lead the Riversharks past the Somerset Patriots 7-3, before 2,606 fans at Campbell's Field.
Anderson, among the league leaders in batting, has now reached base safely in 16 consecutive games following Saturday night's performance in which the catcher went 3-4, knocking in three runs and scoring three more.
Riversharks starter Jaime Steward earned the victory to improve to 3-1. The southpaw pitched 8 strong innings, allowing three runs on just four hits, while striking out six.
Somerset grabbed a 2-1 lead in the top of the 4th on Jeff Nettles' solo homerun. Like Anderson, Nettles hit two bombs in this one, his 3rd and 4th of the season.
Patriots hurler Greg Modica ran into trouble in the 6th inning, as the Riversharks batted around, scoring four times. Stephen Drew led off the inning with a triple and would score on an RBI single off the bat of Chris Wakeland. Drew chipped in with two hits on the night. After Travis Anderson's RBI triple gave Camden a 4-3 lead, Dwight Maness followed with a run scoring single. Maness went 2-3 with two runs scored. Modica suffered the loss (1-3) and allowed six runs on eight hits in 5.1 innings of work.
Newly acquired Nick Stocks pitched a scoreless 8th inning for Somerset, who have lost the first two games of the series, with Sunday afternoon's contest still on tap.
The Riversharks will send left-hander Eric Fischer to the mound, in search of his first win. Somerset will counter with their ace Brian Tollberg, whose 1.83 ERA is among the league leaders. Game time is set for 1:35.
