CAMDEN, N.J. - The Camden Riversharks have signed righthanded pitchers Scott Gorgen, James Simmons, and Brett Cammons, along with catcher Mike Albaladejo, and infielder Wilson Batista. The Riversharks now have fourteen players under contract.
Batista comes to Camden following a trade from the York Revolution for infielder Wilson Valdez. The 33-year old infielder begins his eleventh professional season, and fourth in the Atlantic League. The switch-hitter batted .304 in 122 games for York, swatting 26 doubled and driving in 67 runs. Batista originally broke into the Atlantic League with Bridgeport in 2008 after five seasons in the New York Mets organization.
Gorgen, 26, begins his second season in the Atlantic League, both with Camden. The product of the St. Louis Cardinals system appeared in 14 games for the Riversharks, including 11 starts. The Concord, CA native begins his sixth season in professional baseball.
Albaladejo, 23, returns for his second season in Camden. He appeared in 31 games for the Riversharks last season after spending part of 2012 in the Washington Nationals system.
James Simmons begins his first Atlantic League season after spending six seasons in the Oakland Athletics organization. The 2007 first-round pick brings a 4.64 ERA in 147 games to Camden's pitching stable, including 79 starts. The 27-year old struck out 99 batters in 2012 split between Oakland's High-A and Triple-A teams.
Cammons joins the Riversharks after six seasons in the Braves system. The 27-year-old righty missed all of 2013 with an injury. Cammons's career ERA sits at 4.01, with all but three of his 156 appearances coming out of the bullpen.
The Riversharks home opener is on May 2nd, 2014 at 7:05. Ticket information is available on www.riversharks.com.
