RiverHawks Win Second in a Row in Extra Time
January 25, 2011 - SPHL (SPHL)
Augusta RiverHawks News Release
Relative newcomer Travis Dunstall scored a power play goal with just one minute and thirteen seconds remaining in overtime to give the Augusta RiverHawks a 3-2 victory over the host Columbus Cottonmouths. The victory was a big one for the RiverHawks as it vaulted them into sole possession of fourth-place in the Southern Professional Hockey League, two points ahead of the Cottonmouths who sit alone in fifth. The RiverHawks are also now six points ahead of the Fayetteville FireAntz who are in seventh place. The SPHL playoff race admits the top six teams into the tournament.
The power play goal was a great relief for the RiverHawks, as they had a lopsided advantage with regards to opportunities with the man-advantage, enjoying eight opportunities prior to the overtime period. Despite the opportunities the RiverHawks were unable to solve Cottonmouths' goaltender Ian Vigier until Dunstall scored on their ninth power play of the night.
The goal was Dunstall's second in his three games since joining the RiverHawks, and made amends for taking a potentially costly penalty earlier in the extra frame.
The RiverHawks also received goals from Egor Mironov and defenseman Drew Baker. The Cottonmouths replied with goals from Brett Hammond and Peter MacDougall. RiverHawks' goaltender Adam Avramenko made 27 stops to pick up his third win in five starts since being acquired by Augusta. It is his sixth win overall so far this season.
The RiverHawks are back in action at the James Brown Arena Friday, February 4th as they face the Columbus Cottonmouths. The puck drops at 7:30pm.
