Cincinnati Riverhawks News Release
(Cincinnati, OH) â The Cincinnati Riverhawks (6-7-0, 18 points) beat the Indiana Blast (2-10-1, 7 points) on a warm Saturday night 5-2. The Riverhawks avenged their loss the previous night to the Blast. Indiana beat Cincinnati on Friday 3-1 in a game televised nationally on Fox Sports World.
Indiana came out of the gates still riding high from the previous night's win, but neither team was able to get any good opportunities.
Midfielder Allen Eller opened the scoring for the Riverhawks in the 35th minute when fellow midfielder Edward Child's throw in from the far side bounced right to Eller, who was waiting inside the box. Eller blasted a one touch volley into the left side of the net for his second goal of the season.
Indiana forward Jamar Beasley scored a goal on a loose ball in the box in stoppage time to tie the game 1-1 going into halftime.
The second half started with the momentum on Cincinnati's side. Eller scored his second goal of the night in the 52nd minute of play. Forward Chris Doré served up a ball on a restart to Eller who was again in the box and put the ball in the net for Cincinnati.
Defender Jeremie Piette scored the go ahead goal in the 62nd minute. Piette took the ball from the Cincinnati side, went through Indiana's defense and zipped a shot into the bottom left corner of the net from 18 yards out.
The Riverhawks put their fourth goal on the board in the 73rd minute. Indiana keeper Josh Lynk bobbled a shot from forward Byron Carmichael. Forward Juan Sastoque was in the right place at the right time and chipped the bobbled ball over Lynk.
Indiana scored their second goal off a penalty kick by Jeff Dresser in the 75th minute. Dresser was able to put the ball just past keeper Eric Pattison's hands.
The Riverhawks did not sit back and protect their lead as the game went on. Chris Doré scored not even a minute after Indiana's penalty kick to put the score at 5-2. Doré took the ball down the right side after Sastoque passed the ball to him. Doré's shot came from the right side of the penalty area and went right past the keeper.
Indiana was never able to recover after Cincinnati took the lead.
The win Saturday put the season series between the two teams at 4-1, thus giving the Riverhawks the inaugural Border Battle Cup. The Riverhawks and the Blast will meet one more time this season on July 2 for a game at Indiana.
