RiverHawks Win Another Over Huntsville

December 15, 2011 - SPHL (SPHL)
Augusta RiverHawks News Release

The Augusta RiverHawks picked up a tight road win Thursday night, as they defeated the Huntsville Havoc 5-3. The RiverHawks carried a two-goal lead into the second period, and while the Havoc managed to rally and tie the game in the third period, Drew Baker snuffed out the comeback with an unassisted goal just over a minute after the Havoc managed to knot the game.

The RiverHawks were playing a man short as leading scorer Chris Doyle was loaned to the South Carolina Stingrays of the East Coast Hockey League earlier Thursday. The RiverHawks did not skip a beat as the top offense in the Southern Professional Hockey League once again scored over five goals for the fourth time in a row.

Doyle's former linemates kept rolling along. Both Dustin Cloutier and Jim Gehring had second period goals, while Cloutier posted two assists and Gehring added one of his own. By tickling the twine Gehring adds to his SPHL-leading goal totals. Cloutier continued an incredible run by scoring in his 14th straight game.

Goaltender BJ O'Brien picked up the win by making 30 saves. It was his fourth-straight win and he has allowed just seven goals over that span.

RiverHawks' Captain Matt Auffrey continued his strong play by scoring the team's first goal, extending a point-streak to eight games and his goal-scoring streak to four. Forward Branden Kosolofsky added an empty net goal with just a second remaining in the game.

The RiverHawks are back in action on Phoenix Refrigeration Ice at the James Brown Arena Friday, December 16th and Saturday, December 17th as they play back-to-back games against the Mississippi RiverKings. The puck drops at 7:35pm both nights. Friday night's game is Toys for Tots night featuring a Teddy Bear Toss! Fans are invited to bring new, unwrapped toys for donation to Toys for Tots, and to bring a new, unwrapped stuffed animal. Immediately following the RiverHawks' first goal of the game fans will be allowed to throw the bears onto the ice.

Saturday night is JD Paugh Memorial Night. All tickets for the game have been marked down to $12. The RiverHawks are donating $2.00 from every ticket purchased to the Brandon Paugh Education Fund, and Global Spectrum is donating an additional dollar from every ticket sold to the fund. Additionally, the RiverHawks will pay tribute to JD Paugh by wearing specially designed jerseys. The game-worn jerseys will be auctioned off immediately following the game with the proceeds from the auction going towards the Education Fund. Tickets for the game are available through the RiverHawks' office and the James Brown Arena box office. Additional information on the Team, tickets, and schedule are available on the RiverHawks' home on the web, www.augustariverhawks.com or by calling 706-993-2645.
