RiverHawks Triumph over Ice Gators

Lafayette, LA--The Augusta RiverHawks and the Louisiana IceGators were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Augusta made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

The RiverHawks gained the winning advantage on a goal by Michael Switzer 15:39 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

Augusta pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 26 penalty minutes.

The RiverHawks were paced by Switzer, who finished with one goal.

Augusta stifled Louisiana's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The 23 shots that the RiverHawks put on net surpassed Augusta's average of 18.3 shots per game this season.

Augusta also got points from Taylor McReynolds, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Kyle Watson also scored for Augusta. More assists for Augusta came viaLuke Frey, Casey Mignone, Jesse Echternach, Taylor Larsen, and Matt Auffrey, who each chipped in one.

The IceGators forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and three majors for 41 minutes in penalty time. Louisiana had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game.

The IceGators were helped by Cody Zubko, who racked up one goal. Zubko scored 1:49 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Kirk Byczynski provided the assist. Louisiana also got a goal from Tyler Lyon as well. In addition, Louisiana received assists from Shawn McNeil and Marc Andre Carre, who contributed one a piece.

Robbie Moss rejected 18 shots on goal for the RiverHawks. Augusta registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. Riley Gill recorded 19 saves for Louisiana. The IceGators registered zero goals on six power play opportunities. For Louisiana, Carre was ejected from the game.

The RiverHawks will be on the road until February 16. Their next contest is coming up on February 2 as the Team faces the Ice Gators for their final game of the weekend. Fans can watch the road games live at Forest Hills Golf Club in Augusta.
