Augusta RiverHawks News Release
Augusta, GA--The Augusta RiverHawks announced Wednesday that they have acquired the rights to forward Shawn Skelly from the Mississippi Surge in exchange for the rights to forward Branden Kosolofsky. In the trade the Surge also receives future considerations.
"Branden was a big part of this franchise for the past two seasons and was a very good player for our organization," said RiverHawks' Head Coach Rob Miller. "The start our team has had to the season is unacceptable and I felt the need to acquire more goal scoring. Skelly is a proven goal scorer who I believe will inject some energy into our offense, which is very much needed. We thank Branden for all of his hard work and wish him the best of luck."
In the 2011-12 season Skelly ranked second on the Surge in scoring, tallying 20 goals and adding 26 assists for a total of 46 points, while posting a team-best +19 mark. In the first five games of the 2012-13 season, Skelly has led the Surge in goals with four.
The 5-foot-10, 190-pound Walled Lake, MI native played at Adrian College for four seasons before turning pro, where he skated alongside current RiverHawks' forward Kyle Watson. There he posted dominant offensive numbers, averaging over two points per game during his collegiate career. In 113 games, he scored 102 goals and added 127 assists for 229 points. He is expected to join the team this weekend.
Kosolofsky had begun his third season with the RiverHawks, picking up an assist in the Team's first five games. During the 2011-12 season, he scored 13 goals to go along with 22 assists for 35 points in 50 games. The previous season, he scored 19 goals and 33 assists for 52 points, good enough to be named to the SPHL All-Rookie Team.
The RiverHawks will return to home ice this week for games on Thursday and Friday evening. Thursday's game is the first "Throw 'Em Back Thursday" of the season, presented by The Loft, Olde Tyme Tattoo and Barber Shop, and 95 Rock. Friday's game is "Harleys and Hockey Night" presented by Augusta Harley-Davidson. Both games are set to begin at 7:35PM.
