December 8, 2011 - SPHL (SPHL)
Augusta RiverHawks News Release

The Augusta RiverHawks used a dominating offensive performance and a perfect game from goaltender BJ O'Brien to rout the Huntsville Havoc 8-0, Thursday night at the James Brown Arena. The RiverHawks got goals from seven different players while O'Brien made 27 saves to capture his first career shut-out.

The win gives the RiverHawks a record of 13-3-1, extending their lead atop the Southern Professional Hockey League to five points over the second place Knoxville Ice Bears.

Captain Matt Auffrey led the way for the RiverHawks, continuing his strong offensive play of late. He tallied a "Gordie Howe Hat Trick" scoring a goal, adding a pair of assists, and engaging in a fight in the first period. The production gives him an impressive 13 points in his past six games, and has moved him into the SPHL's top ten scorers.

Another RiverHawk whose big night continued a trend was forward Chris Doyle. Doyle also had a goal and two assists, extending his point streak to 11 games. Over that span he has a remarkable nine goals and 16 assists for 25 points. His 29 points this season places him second in the SPHL, just two behind the leader.

The impressive offensive displays did not all come from forwards. Defenseman Ed Snetsinger continued his prolific season scoring a pair of power play goals. His two goals give him the second most points amongst defensemen in the SPHL.

Other RiverHawks goal scorers were Dustin Cloutier, Neil Graham, and Kyle Watson, who scored his first career professional goal.

The game featured a pair of "firsts" for the RiverHawks this season. Their eight goals scored was the most for the team during the 2011-12 campaign. Ironically only the Havoc have scored more goals in a single game this season, firing in nine during a game on November 12, 2011. It was also the RiverHawks' first shut-out of the season.

The RiverHawks are back in action on Phoenix Refrigeration Ice at the James Brown Arena Saturday, December 10th, as they play the Pensacola Ice Flyers. The puck drops at 7:35pm. Tickets for the game are available through the RiverHawks' office and the James Brown Arena box office.
