Cincinnati Riverhawks News Release

(Cincinnati, OH) – The Cincinnati Riverhawks prepare to increase their lead in the Central Division this weekend with games against the Indiana Blast and the Minnesota Thunder.

The Riverhawks travel to Indianapolis to play the Blast tonight at 8:35 pm (ET). The Riverhawks trounced the Blast at Cincinnati's home opener 3-0 on May 2. Indiana has brought in some new players, including former MLS player Jamar Beasley, and are looking for some revenge.

This game will also be the second game for the Border Battle Cup. The Blast and the Riverhawks created the Border Battle Cup in order to increase the rivalry between the two teams. Whichever team has the better record of the six times they play each other will win the Cup at the end of the season.

The Riverhawks second match of the weekend will be at home on Sunday at 4:05 pm. The Riverhawks will take on the Minnesota Thunder at the Town & Country Sports Complex in Wilder, KY. This game is the more important of the two because it doubles as the second leg of qualifying for the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup.

The Thunder beat the Riverhawks 1-0 in the first leg of qualifying in Minnesota on May 4. The Riverhawks have never advanced past the qualifying round for the U.S. Open Cup and need a win on Sunday to do so.

The Riverhawks will have a tough time this weekend as they will be without the services of star defender Jeremie Piette and midfielder Philippe Godoy. Piette was suspended for three games as a result of his actions during the Patriots-Riverhawks game on May 10. Godoy is currently injured and was served a one game suspension for coming on to the field in street clothes at the same game.

This Sunday is also Tri-County Night. All kids who are members of the Tri-County Youth Soccer Association get in for free. As an added bonus, any member who joins the Hawks Club, the Riverhawks youth fan club, will get an adult into the game for half price.

As an A-League premier team and part of the United Soccer Leagues, the Cincinnati Riverhawks enter its sixth season in 2003. For tickets and general team information call (513) 326-GOAL or visit www.riverhawks.com.
