RiverHawks Continue Dominance of Ice Gators
November 12, 2011 - SPHL (SPHL)
Augusta RiverHawks News Release
The Augusta RiverHawks continued their dominance of the Louisiana Ice Gators Saturday night in Lafayette, LA as they defeated the hosts 4-3. The win makes the RiverHawks unbeaten in regulation in eight straight games, with an overtime loss to the Fayetteville FireAntz as their only blemish during that span.
The win pushes the RiverHawks' record to an impressive 8-1-1, good for first place in the Southern Professional Hockey League with 17 points, five ahead of the second-place Knoxville Ice Bears. The Ice Gators fall to a record of 3-5-0 and sit in sixth place.
This weekend marked the second time in this young season that the teams played in back-to-back games against each other. The RiverHawks have won all four games.
The star for the RiverHawks was forward Jim Gehring. He recorded his second hat-trick of the season, putting three goals past Ice Gators' netminder Mike Brown, including the game winner late in the third period while the RiverHawks were short-handed. The three goals give him nine on the season, good for first in the SPHL in that category.
RiverHawks' goaltender David Wilson was given the second start in as many nights and did not disappoint. He made 31 saves in the game, including a few frantic ones as the final seconds ticked off the clock for his third victory of the season.
The RiverHawks are off until next Friday night when they face the Knoxville Ice Bears in Knoxville, TN in a matchup of the two top teams in the SPHL thus far. The puck drops at 7:35pm. Fans in Augusta can catch the games at the Official Live Watch Party at Somewhere in Augusta at 2820 Washington Rd. and enjoy a burger and beer for just $10.
The RiverHawks are back in action on Phoenix Refrigeration Ice at the James Brown Arena Friday, November 25th as they play the Pensacola Ice Flyers. The puck drops at 7:35pm. Tickets for the game are available through the James Brown Arena box office. Additional information on the Team, tickets, and schedule are available on the RiverHawks' home on the web, www.augustariverhawks.com or by calling 706-993-2645.
