RiverHawks Announce 'Movember' Campaign Plans

November 12, 2012 - SPHL (SPHL)
Augusta RiverHawks News Release

Augusta, GA--The Augusta RiverHawks have a history of raising a lot of money for worthy causes in its two-plus seasons as a team, and they will add to that history this November as they take part in a month-long Movember campaign. The purpose of the campaign will be to raise awareness and funds for men's health issues, specifically prostate and testicular cancer initiatives.

During the month of November, members from the RiverHawks will grow mustaches as a part of the world-wide Movember tradition. Each week during the remainder of the month, each participating player will have his picture taken to track his progress. At each RiverHawks' home game in November, fans will be able to view the pictures at the special Movember table on the James Brown Arena concourse. Fans will be encouraged to log their vote for their favorite mustache for a minimum donation of $2.

"Our players are really the ones behind this whole initiative," said RiverHawks' Vice-President of Business Development Ken Vezina. "A couple of our players approached the office with the idea, and we thought it was a great cause and something that could be a lot of fun for the fans. Hopefully everyone really catches on to it and we can raise a lot of funds and awareness."

The campaign will culminate with a wrap-up party at the Friday, November 30th RiverHawks home game. At that game the player or staff member who's mustache garnered the most votes will be declared the champion of RiverHawks Movember 2012. One lucky fan who voted for the winner will be selected, and will win a special fan experience prize pack which will include four Glass tickets for an upcoming game, a post-game locker-room tour and meet and greet with their Movember champion.

At Movember Night on November 30th, $2.00 from every ticket purchased at the door will be donated to the cause. The campaign is sponsored by Weigle Insurance.

The 'Hawks will return to home ice on November 15 and 16. November 15 is the first "Throw 'Em Back Thursday" of the season featuring drink specials and presented by The Loft, Olde Tyme Tattoo and Barber Shop, and Augusta's rock station 95 Rock. Hockey and Harleys Night presented by Augusta Harley Davidson will be featured on November 16.
