Riverdragons Announce 2004 NBA All-Star Game Contest

COLUMBUS, GA—The Columbus Riverdragons and the National Basketball Association want to send one person and a guest to the 2004 NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles on February 15.

Over the next two weeks, the Riverdragons will be holding their "Why I Deserve to Win Two Tickets to the 2004 NBA All-Star Game Contest". Contestants must put together a 30-second jingle, poem, rap, etc. describing why they deserve to win two tickets to the 2004 NBA All-Star Game in Los Angeles on February 15, 2004 at the Staples Center. Contestants can enter their names at Riverdragons home games on Friday, January 9th vs. Roanoke, or on Friday, January 16th vs. Charleston at the Columbus Civic Center. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m.. Entries may also be made at the Riverdragons office located at 18 East 11th Street in Uptown Columbus. Five finalists will be randomly selected from a raffle drawing following the Friday, January 16th game for a chance to win the grand prize. Finalists will perform their jingle, poem, rap, etc. during the Riverdragons game versus Fayetteville on Monday, January 19th in front of a panel of judges from WRBL-TV and Foxie 105, who will pick the winner and award the two NBA All-Star tickets. The finalists do not have to be present on January 16, however must be in attendance for the game on January 19.

"A contest of this nature is what the Riverdragons association with the NBA is all about," said Riverdragons team president J. Barry McMullin. "We can't wait to hear the unique, creative reasons why someone should receive an all expenses paid trip to the NBA All-Star Game. The Riverdragons have the most passionate fans in Columbus and we're looking forward to seeing and hearing them show their enthusiasm on January 19th during our Martin Luther King Day Celebration."

The NBDL, the NBA's minor league, includes the Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Charleston Lowgators (S.C.), Huntsville Flight (Ala.), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.), Columbus Riverdragons (Ga.), and the Asheville Altitude (N.C.).

Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the NBDL serves as a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 30 teams and as a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.

The Riverdragons continue their 2003-04 home schedule this Friday, January 9 at the Columbus Civic Center against the Roanoke Dazzle at 7 p.m.. It will be the River Rage Dance Team Poster Giveaway to the first one thousand fans in attendance, sponsored by Colony Furniture.
