Charleston RiverDogs News Release
CHARLESTON, S.C. - Right-hander Garrett Whitlock extended his scoreless innings streak to 25 straight as the Charleston RiverDogs claimed a shutout victory for the third time on Saturday, 6-0, over the Lexington Legends in front of 6,114 fans at Joe Riley Park.
Whitlock (2-1) continued at his nearly untouchable pace, as the 21-year-old mowed down a career-high 10 Legends (14-13) hitters in his seven scoreless innings. The righty surrendered just two hits and a walk, lowering his season ERA to 1.06.
In his last three starts, Whitlock has 21 strikeouts compared to the one walk he issued on Saturday. The Georgia native faced the minimum through the first six innings, rolling a double play ball to wipe out the lone baserunner he surrendered.
At the plate, RiverDogs (14-15) third baseman Chris Hess went 3-for-4 including two doubles, an RBI and a run, extending his hitting streak to six games. Designated hitter Pablo Olivares also had three hits, one of which was a two-bagger, and scored two runs in his first game batting leadoff.
Altogether, the Holy City lineup put together 13 hits, including a season-high six doubles. The Dogs have struggled with runners in scoring position this season, beginning the night at a .198 mark, but had six hits with ducks on the pond in Saturday's victory.
Starting with a first inning run, the RiverDogs staked their first lead and never looked back. Left fielder Leonardo Molina drove in a pair in the effort for Charleston.
Braden Bristo shut the door for Charleston, throwing a pair of scoreless innings. The right-handed reliever has not allowed an earned run in 11 1/3 innings pitched this season.
Ballpark Fun

In fact, they dropped approximately 3,000 balls with the first Fly-In Helicopters Bouncy Ball Drop of the season presented by NASH FM and Fox 24. One lucky contestant won $500, but did not claim the $2,000 grand prize, meaning the pot increases to $4,000 next month. Saturday was also Cinco De Mayo(nnaise), which included a variety of condiment-crazed between inning games, one of which included a marriage proposal. She said yes.
