RiverCity Rage announce new head coach

St. Charles, MO - The RiverCity Rage announced today they have hired a new head coach. Eric Van Tassel comes to the Rage with a long history of producing great offenses and outstanding receivers. The Denver, CO native spent last season in the NIFL as the Assistant Offensive Coordinator of the San Diego Shockwave, who finished first in the Western Conference at 10-1.
"We are excited to have Coach Van Tassel on board for the 2008 season," said Matt Jones, Rage GM. "He brings with him a great offensive mind and an enthusiasm that I'm sure will come through to his players."
Van Tassel graduated from Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO in 1987. While at Fort Lewis, he played wide receiver and still holds the record for most two-point receptions in a career and season. He began his professional playing career with the Colorado Springs Spirit in the Minor League Football System in 1989 - '90. While playing in the MLFS, Van Tassel set records for longest TD catch (77 yds) and highest per catch average (20.3 yds). He concluded his playing career with the Wolfsburg Blue Wings in the German Professional League.
Prior to coaching with the Shockwave, Van Tassel had worked with offenses and receivers at numerous levels. He returned to Fort Lewis for the 1986-'87 seasons, producing three All-Conference receivers. In 2000 he coached receivers for the LA Dragons of the Spring Football League. From there he went on to the San Diego Riptide of Arena 2 Football. Van Tassel then spent the 2003-'04 seasons at Palomar Junior College where he, once again, produce three All-Conference receivers.
"I've heard nothing but great things about the Rage organization and their tremendous fan base," said Van Tassel. "I am excited about the opportunity that our ownership group has given me. Our goal as an organization, from top to bottom, will be nothing less than a UIF Championship and to represent St. Charles and the surrounding area with a football team they can be extremely proud of."
Coach Van Tassel will be available for the media during and after the Rage open tryout on Sunday, November 25th at the Family Arena in St. Charles. The tryout will begin at 10:00 am with registration starting at 8:30 am. Please contact Aaron McCreight (314) 402-2107 for further assistance.
