River Monsters win over Johnstown

Northern Kentucky River Monsters News Release

JOHNSTOWN, PA - Harry Lewis scored two of his four touchdowns as Northern Kentucky dominated the third quarter in recording the 62-49 victory over Johnstown Saturday at the Cambria War Memorial Arena in Ultimate Indoor Football League action (UIFL).

Northern Kentucky scored 21 of the 24 points scored in decisive third stanza. With the victory, the River Monsters are tied for first place with Saginaw. NKY (2-0) will travel to Pikeville Saturday to face the Eastern Kentucky Drillers (1-1).

Lewis' four touchdowns were one shy of the UIFL single-game record set by EKY's Aric Evans in the first week of the season. While Lewis fell short on one record, he crushed the single-game receiving mark with 151 yards. Ironically, the record was previously 110 yards by teammate Willie Idlette.

Lewis wasn't the only River Monster to have a record-setting performance. Running back Maurice Douse ran for 57 yards on 11 carries and one touchdown. His 57 yards outdid the 31 yards by Johnstown quarterback David Dinkins last week.

After the defense stopped Generals' first possession of the third quarter, Jared Lorenzen connected with Lewis on back-to-back possessions for 28 and 30yards, respectively. Those two scores, coupled with renewed vigor from the River Monsters' defense stymied any energy Johnstown took into the half.

The Generals momentum mostly resulted in NKY miscues.

After building a two-possession lead midway through the second quarter, the River Monsters started to self-destruct. A botched onside kick and interception returned for touchdown brought the Generals even at 26 with 40 seconds remaining in the first half.

Lorenzen finished with 275 yards and seven touchdowns on 22-of-37 passing with one interception.

Jon D'Angelo led the team for the second straight game with seven tackles and a blocked field goal.
